The Audiences tool KEEPS. ON. GROWING.
And we’re excited to add another really useful tool to the mix. If you’re new to Peel or haven’t learned about Audiences, here’s the nittiest of grittiest TL;DRs on it:
- Audiences is your hub for nurturing customer relationships
- It’s our #1 customer retention tool
- It lets you use dozens of filters to find super-specific pockets of customers
- Once you find those customers, you can push your Audience list to email, SMS & FB
- After taking action - hitting them curated, personalized messaging - you can track growth in your Audiences Dashboard page.
That’s the high-level download on Audiences. If you want the full breakdown, you can read about it here. Or check out this video:
Moral of the story is that with Audiences, you can find groups of customers as high level as “Top 10% of customers” or as specific as “Customer who have: 2+ purchases, have purchased a certain product, used a particular discount code, has an LTV of at least $X” with easy-to-use filters.
On top of that, we keep adding useful tools to the Audiences page that makes it even easier for users to find information about their customers, like Audience Traits that we launched recently.
And the latest addition is no exception!
Now for the Update: Audiences Overlap
Think venn diagram meets a really useful customer retention twist. That’s exactly what Audiences Overlap is. We’ve added the ability to look at your full list of Audiences that you’ve created (or added from our handy Templates Library) and toggle on 2 or 3 that you want to compare.
The Audiences you’ve chosen pop up as circles in a venn diagram and the overlapping area shows you the number of customers they have in common:
If you want a CSV of that list of common customers, you simply click the overlapping area!
Big shoutout to Cameron Faist, our friend at Aura Bora. In our recent chat, Cameron asked if we had a feature that let the user compare Audiences and see overlapping customers. We love those sparks of inspiration from our customers; now we have a super useful addition to the Audiences suite of retention tools. ⚡
What Can You Use Audiences Overlap For?
Seeing exactly how your Audiences overlap with each is useful in so many ways. Take the examples in the image above. If you created 3 separate Audiences: Black Friday 1st Time Purchasers, Black Friday Returning Purchasers, and Active Subscribers, you have 3 seemingly disparate groups of customers. But by toggling them on in the overlap tool, you can see exactly where they intersect.
This helps you identify exactly who purchased on Black Friday and who is a subscriber, aka valuable customers, who’s spending during your big sales, and loving your product enough to subscribe. If that’s not an LTV opportunity, then we don’t know what is!
By isolating that overlapping group, you can now create a reward-based incentive campaign for them, or offer them an additional discount for their loyalty, or give them something of value beyond just what the other customers in their respective Audiences. It’s also an opportunity to warm them up into an upsell or increased subscription through add-ons.
There’s so many examples of the ways brands are using the overlap tool. Check this one out:
In this case, we have an Audience made up of the Top 10% of Customers overall for the brand (a great Audience for any brand). By toggling on that one and a couple Audiences based on specific locales, now they can start creating really unique and personalized content for those folks.
✅ Content that’s useful based on geographical location?
✅ Physical mail campaign with redeemable coupons for strategic brick-and-mortar locations?
✅ Product recommendations or exclusive offers for certain locations?
It’s all about delivering content that’s personalized, valuable to your customers, and in-turn makes them more affiliated with your brand; Audiences Overlap is just another layer of the tool that makes this easier!
Bottom line: whether you want to focus on the overlap of certain Audiences to include those customers in additional campaigns, or you want to make sure you exclude them from certain campaigns (to avoid double exposure to ads or the wrong type of content), Audiences Overlap makes it super easy to pull those customers into focus.
💡 There’s nothing stopping you from taking your Audiences Overlap, downloading the CSV, then using the CSV upload feature and ramping up email campaigns to the overlapping group!
